Woman Gets Engaged At Her Sister's Wedding. Watch the Video Before You Judge

"We shared everything growing up... my wedding day was no different."

In the weeks leading up to her wedding, Kaira Quiller often dreamed about how the day would go.

"Just typical bride things," she says.

But one night, she dreamed of a very specific scenario: Herself, newly-minted as a Quiller, about to throw her wedding bouquet. But instead of tossing it behind her, she turns around and hands the flowers to her younger sister, Stephanie. And behind Stephanie is her boyfriend of four years, Anthony, kneeling.

"I woke up from that dream, and I literally had chills," Kaira, 25, tells TODAY.com.

Kaira brought that dream to life at her destination wedding in Costa Mujeres, Mexico, on Oct. 23. Video of the moment, which Kaira shared to TikTok and received more than 1.5 million likes, captures Kaira's part in handing off the flowers and turning her sister around to face Anthony. Stephanie immediately covers her mouth in shock. (Stephanie said yes, Kaira confirms.)

"We shared everything growing up... my wedding day was no different," Kaira wrote over the video.

When Kaira and her now husband, Josh, settled on having a destination wedding, they knew it would basically function as a "big family vacation."

"We are very close knit," she says. "I have an older brother and a younger sister, so it's really just been the three of us all of our lives, really. Our parents really made sure that we were just always close and just the best of friends."

She and Josh went into their wedding week with the understanding that while the ceremony is "our moment," the trip is for the whole family.

In fact during the trip, a few days before the ceremony, her older brother, Elijah, who is expecting a child with his wife, Carin, threw a gender reveal party.

After her dream about Stephanie, Kaira reached out to Anthony, whom she knew was planning on proposing by the end of the year. She also knew that Stephanie wanted to get engaged in front of friends and family and "preferably on a trip."

Kaira saw her wedding as the perfect opportunity. But when she told Anthony about the dream, she emphasized there was "no pressure."

On the day of the wedding, as she was getting ready to walk down the aisle, Anthony asked Kaira and Stephanie's dad for his blessing, eventually leading to the emotional mid-reception proposal. After he got on one knee, Kaira made sure Anthony had a microphone so he could propose with a loving speech.

"Throughout that whole trip, each of my siblings, we all had a moment. My brother had his gender reveal — I found out that I’m having a nephew. I got married, and then my sister got proposed to," she recaps. "So many core memories."

The moment has also resonated with the video's more than five million viewers — even those who might've said a proposal at someone else's wedding isn't appropriate. Some memorable reactions include:

  • "This is the most unselfish thing I've ever seen."
  • "First time I've smiled at a proposal at a wedding."
  • "I absolutely hate wedding proposals but this is an exception."
  • "i’m so anti wedding proposals but this is everything to me genuinely."
  • "When I say 'no one can get engaged at my wedding' my sister and best friend are excluded."

While proposing at a wedding is generally a no-no, Kaira notes, "When it comes to my sister, nothing is off-limits."

Some commenters still expressed that they'd never allow a proposal at their wedding, to which Kaira says, "At your wedding, you can do what you want, but this was a beautiful moment that happened at my wedding that I chose to share."

But she admits, she might feel differently about a proposal at her reception if she wasn't in on it.

"This was a moment that I completely ordained," she says. "This was something that was orchestrated, and I helped orchestrate."
