Do you own a Peloton bike? You might want to check your bike's model as the brand is recalling 833,000 of its original Bike+ design. The release was posted on Thursday after recent reports of the seat post breaking during use, posing injury hazards.
The bikes affected are the original Bike+ manufactured between 2019 and 2022. After Peloton received three reports of the seat post breaking, including two reports that resulted in injuries due to falls, the CPSC advised consumers to stop using the bikes and contact Peloton for a free repair. The bikes affected feature the model number PL02 and serial numbers beginning with the letter “T.”
However, this isn't the first time Peloton has recalled a product. In 2023, Peloton reported a net loss of 29,000 subscribers due to a bike recall while waiting for a replacement seat post. This recall impacted more than 2 million bikes sold since January 2013. If you think your Peloton is one of the affected ones, it's time you check the serial number.
How do you find the serial number of a Peloton bike?
You can find the serial number located inside the front fork, behind the front fork or behind the flywheel of the bike. The brand is offering each consumer a free seat post that can be self-installed.
At-home workout products to try
If you're in need of a super durable kettlebell for quality at-home workouts, look no further than this affordable option from Amazon Basics, which also won a Start TODAY x Shop TODAY Wellness Award for best budget at-home gym essential.
“This is a classic basic kettlebell,” said TODAY health reporter Sarah Jacoby. “I like that it has the vinyl coating to protect my apartment when I inevitably drop it or just put it down too quickly.”
Get in a quality workout without spending a fortune with these adjustable ankle weights that are great for running, lifting and more fitness activities. “When it comes to fitness gear, I like to stick to the basics: dumbbells, resistance bands, a yoga mat I can use again and again and ankle weights,” noted partnerships editorial assistant Erica Marrison.
"I have an almost 1-year-old, which makes getting to the gym (or doing anything outside of the house alone) seemingly impossible," shared editor Rebecca Brown. "This means I do a ton of workouts at home. And workout gear is usually plain ol' ugly. These speckled dumbbells are so cute that I love setting them out instead of hiding them like I normally do."
This sturdy dumbbell is made of Nike Grind rubber and features sculpted edges for added comfort while lifting.
Senior social media editor Kate McCarthy recommends this colorful kettlebell set that she's owned for nearly five years. “They’re super basic, no nonsense and reasonably priced," she explained. "They’re not aesthetic or anything, but super durable and great for a beginner or someone who is just learning about kettlebells.”
Deputy managing editor Jess Bender is a big fan of this splurge-worthy fitness product that is super easy to use. "I’ve been working the Power Ring into my home routines more regularly of late just to prioritize strength training a bit better," she says.
This versatile workout item comes in four unique shades and is ideal for strength training, HIIT and aerobics, according to the brand.
McCarthy, who is an avid runner and NYC marathoner, previously told us that this is the “best athletic investment” she’s ever made. "With other mats, I’ve struggled with my hands and feet slipping, especially during hot yoga classes, but with this mat I truly never slip,” she said. “This makes me enjoy extra sweaty classes even more because I can focus on the workout instead of stressing that I can’t get a grip on the mat.”
"I like having weights at home, but when you want a few different weights, it can be tough to organize, especially if you're in an apartment," stated social video producer Anita Chomenko. "This adjustable set from Lifepro can take you from five pounds all the way to 25 in five-pound increments. They're easy to adjust, and they come with a holder. I am easily able to hide them under my reading chair but then pull them out when I want to use them."
TODAY writer, Sarah Jacoby gave this walking pad great reviews for its compact design for under-the-bed storage, speed levels and effectiveness. “At first, I found that about 2.5 mph was a good walking speed for me. But, after a year of consistent use, I’m now totally comfortable walking at a pace of around 3 to 3.2 mph, which feels like a nice mark of progress to me,” says Jacoby.
Associate editor Kamari Stewart-Jackson owns this portable treadmill, which is the perfect option for the busy woman on the go. "I have this mini treadmill and like it because it has wheels that make it easy to move around/store," she explained. "I also like that it has a bit of an incline to give your legs a bit more of a workout. I have a larger foot (women's size 10), so getting used to the size of the pad took a bit. It's long enough to complete a full stride, but I have to pay a bit of attention to make sure I'm staying in one place and not actually moving forward or backward because I will fall off."
