The state of Maryland is known for its blue crabs but the species’ population is dwindling to the lowest in decades, driving up costs and making the business of catching them harder than ever. Experts point to a perfect storm of threats including federal cuts potentially impacting conservation, climate change, pollution and invasive species like blue catfish.
