Amanda Seyfried is famously known for her iconic roles in blockbuster hits like "Mean Girls" and "Mamma Mia!" but she's really just a down-to-earth farm girl at heart. The 40-year-old actress, mother of two and business owner let us sit (down) with her to learn about her eco-friendly children's company and also spilled the tea on the possibility of a third "Mamma Mia!"
While the renowned actress is busier than ever these days starring alongside Sydney Sweeney in "The Housemaid," Seyfried still finds time to get a head start on her holiday shopping. “I always get all my gifts in September,” she tells us. “That’s when I start, I won’t stop. I have bins full of gifts already. I buy gifts all year round.”
Seyfried, who lives on a farm upstate with her husband and two children, says that the greatest gifts you can give are "charitable donations," aside from the donkey she once received from her husband, which she refers to as the "best gift ever." She also collects taxidermy, stating, “I don’t know what it is. I guess I just love animals that you can never touch to be in my home, whether dead or alive.”
The prominent actress, along with her two childhood best friends, Anne Hoehn and Maureen North, also found time to create Make It Cute, a sustainable Play Decor™ brand that flourished out of the “chaos of Covid." Seyfried says these cardboard playhouses represent a “semblance of peace in our homes” where her ultimate goal was to make the brand “as plastic-free as humanly possible.”
Of course, we couldn’t leave without asking her if she would ever reprise her role as Sophie for a potential third installment of “Mamma Mia!". Her answer had us shook. “Just when?” she says. “I will wait forever.”
As we eagerly await another "Mamma Mia!," we're soaking up all the latest and greatest products in Seyfried's shopping cart. For our shopping diaries series, Seyfried reveals her must-have lip gloss, tried-and-true conditioner and go-to boots for feeding the animals on the farm.
Shopping Diaries: Amanda Seyfried
Her favorite kid-friendly activity:
This adorable farmhouse from Seyfried's brand, which she refers to as “an innovation based on something that is tried-and-true." Made from heavy-duty cardboard, this sustainable playhouse is super sturdy and easy to assemble in three simple steps. “These playhouses are always going to be the foundational product,” continues Seyfried. “We wanted something sustainable as well as cute.”
She adds that for every playhouse the brand sells, a tree will be planted with EARTHDAY.ORG, which helps families create memories while caring for the planet.
Her tried-and-true craft:
“Everything about them is very nostalgic and cute,” Seyfried says about the decor kits, which are made for decorating the existing playhouse. Designed for children 2+ (with supervision), these festive accessories are durable and made of non-toxic materials.
Looking for celebratory holiday decorations? The brand also offers a Make It Festive Hanukkah Decor Kit and Make It Festive Christmas Decor Kit for added fun.
Her must-have makeup essential:
Seyfried, who is a Lancôme global ambassador, says this compact lip gloss makes a great stocking stuffer for the holidays. Available in nearly a dozen shades, this hydrating lip product is easy to apply and is infused with vitamin E to help soften lips.
Her travel-friendly hair care product:
“I have to give it up to nature as part of my beauty routine,” Seyfried says. “My beauty routine is usually at night.” Her skin and hair care regimen includes this Kitsch conditioning bar while she is on the road. “I use the bar because I can travel with it. It’s a bar and it’s sustainable," she states.
Her low-maintenance hair care necessity:
Seyfried refers to this hair care essential as the "most incredible conditioner" to help soothe her long, luscious locks. This dermatologist-recommended formula is very hydrating, helps with detangling and promotes a healthier scalp. It is also formulated with clean ingredients and features sustainable packaging.
Her go-to shoes for lazy days:
Just like us, on her off days, Seyfried also likes to reach for comfort over all else. “Sometimes I am so lazy, I will just wear my Crocs,” admits Seyfried. While she didn't specify which Crocs she wears, this standard clog is a tried and true favorite of online shoppers and Shop TODAY staff as well.
Her daily uniform:
Seyfried swears by these classic Muck boots that she mentions are great for “buckets with water that you’re filling and walking with the water." She loves that dirt and water don't "get into your socks." She also tells us that her "caretaker wears them without fail on the farm.” These versatile boots come in a variety of fun colors and feature a rubber sole.
"You cannot drive in these boots. They are the thickest," advises Seyfried.
Her vital riding boots:
Seyfried also has an affinity for these lace-up black boots from Ariat. "I get the same pair of boots every year and I wear them when I ride [horses],” she adds. “They last forever and they always look good. I’ve been wearing them since 'Dear John' as I got them for riding because that’s when I started riding.”
Her go-to gift for animal lovers:
"Bird is the word!" Another holiday gift suggestion from Seyfried, this splurge-worthy smart feeder is perfect "for the bird fans," she says. In addition to the gorgeous hummingbird feeder, you also get an AI-powered camera, USB-C charging cable, metal hanger cleaning brush and more included in your package.
